Introduction
In places like Brancaster, tidal water can cut off Beach Road, and around Welney the roads can be impassable for days at a time. Static signs can’t tell drivers whether a road is open right now, so people often find out only when they reach the water. We worked with Norfolk County Council to install connected signs that show road users clear, current information about flooding. That gives drivers time to choose another route before they set off down a road they can’t use. Hear from Alex Cliff of Norfolk County Council and Westcotec’s Olly Samways and Will Spinks, alongside the local people it was designed to help.
